2020 was a landmark and record year for Northern BC Crime Stoppers
Jan 8, 2021

For Immediate Release

It’s Crime Stoppers Month and Northern BC Crime Stoppers would like to share some exciting news about your award winning program!  Now entering it’s 36 the year, the program expanded it’s reach thru Northern BC and reached nearly 1000 tips in 2020! A couple of months ago, PG Crime Stoppers officially changed its name to Northern BC Crime Stoppers and now serves over 30 communities! We are taking tips north to the Yukon Border, south to Williams Lake, west to Smithers and east to the Alberta border.

Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 we won’t be able to attend our regular community events to celebrate “Crime Stoppers” month, but by the end of January, Northern BC Crime Stoppers will debut our new logo, new website and new mascot!

In 2020, the Northern BC Crime Stoppers Program received a record of 997 tips (up from 700 in 2019) from YOU!  Those tips resulted in 31 arrests (up from 14 in 2019), 10 cases cleared and 11 cash rewards approved.  As well, $144,000 worth of drugs were seized and $7,500 in cash was recovered! Here are more of our impressive numbers:

  2020 Since Inception in 1985
Tips Received 997 18,545
Arrests Made 31 1,595
Number of Awards Approved 11 617

In 2020, Northern BC Crime Stoppers continued our very successful partnership with Shred-it Mobile Shedding Services! With a donation to Crime Stoppers, you can shred your personal documents safely and securely.  It was our most successful event in our 4-year history and together we raised over $5,000! We would like to remind you our next “Community Shred It Event” will be on Saturday April 24th, 2021 in Prince George at the PGSS parking lot from 10am -2pm. As we to rollout our expanded program throughout Northern BC, we plan to host events in more Northern BC Communities. Look for us in the coming months.

The Board of Directors of Northern BC Crime Stoppers would like to thank the citizens of Northern BC for continuing to provide vital information that has led to a record year for tips and arrests in 2020!

We would also like to thank the hard working and dedicated members of the RCMP in Prince George and neighbouring communities for continuing to support this crime fighting program. Later this month, Northern BC Crime Stoppers will officially acknowledge our “Officer of The Year” and Watch of The Year” at the PG Detachment.

There are two ways to submit a tip to Northern BC Crime Stoppers anonymously 24/7 365 Days a year:

The traditional method of calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) and providing information to a trained operator is still very popular. As an increasingly popular alternative, you can submit a tip online.

When providing tips, please be as detailed as possible and remember we don't want your name, just your information!  All methods are completely anonymous!

As one of the many Crime Stopper programs throughout the country, Northern BC Crime Stoppers is a proud partnership of the local media, police and residents of Northern BC.  Northern BC Crime Stoppers is a not-for-profit society run independently of the police by everyday citizens like you!  All information received is anonymous and is provided to the police in the hopes it will further investigations and lead to arrests, seizures and recovered property.
